This workshop has been developed to provide support workers with a practical and applied understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. As professionals, it is essential that we all have relevant foundational knowledge of the industry in which we work. During this interactive workshop, you will gain just that.

  • A brief history of disability supports in Australia
  • Social model of support; values based practice
  • The NDIS, the NDIA, Partners in the Community, and other key roles
  • NDIS eligibility and the access
  • Understanding the different, and differences between, NDIS plan (funding) management types
  • What is ‘Reasonable and Necessary’ support
  • Who has decision-making rights about NDIS matters
  • Support budgets, support categories, and support items
  • Interpreting the NDIS pricing arrangements and support catalogue, including;
    • support categories and support items commonly used by support workers
    • provider travel and activity based transport
    • understanding NDIS pricing regions – Modified Monash Model (MMM)
  • NDIS plan variations, reassessments, and reviews
  • NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, its role and responsibilities
  • Worker screening and the worker screening database
  • NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Handling complaints and feedback as a sole trader service provider
  • Managing incident (including reportable incidents) as a sole trader service provider
  • Understanding restrictive practice
  • NDIS fraud, misuse of funds, and scams

Upon completing this workshop, you will receive an electronic resource with various weblinks to key NDIS and NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission information. This resource is provided to assist support workers to remain up-to-date with new and changing information after this workshop.
