Support work is a diverse field of practice. Therefore, defining the job of a support worker is quite difficult.

People who engage support workers are determining for themselves what skills and attributes suit them best, how and where they find their NDIS support workers, and what quality support means to them in the context of their own life.

What makes a great support worker?

We believe all great support workers share the same foundations of practice. These foundations include developing a deep applied understanding of person-centred approaches, maintaining relevant sector knowledge and skills, knowing the role and it’s responsibilities, valuing themselves as professionals, and taking care of their own well-being.

My Foundations is dedicated to supporting a competent, confident, knowledgeable, accountable, and resilient support worker workforce.

My Foundations builds the applied knowledge of support workers through the provision of workshops and tutoring. We breakdown key frameworks so support workers understand their roles, responsibilities, and provide genuinely person centred support.

“Jodie was so helpful and supportive during my early days in Disabilities.  She made sure I had all information and support I needed and was always professional and easy to talk to.”

“I have known Jodie for 4 years and from the very first day of working with her, I not only felt very comfortable but was always provided with so much support.  A very professional lady who taught me so much.”

We have known Jodie since engaging her services to facilitate a Person Centred Plan for our son who moved in to a group home with 4 other flatmates. Jodie was instrumental in bringing about positive change in our son Nathan’s life.  The staff in the home were new to the Person Centred approach and Jodie encouraged and supported them and other families in the home to think about the future of flatmates / loved ones in a new and exciting way. Jodie has made a huge difference in our son’s life as well as many others.

Jodie was amazing – talk about value for money! Her presentations were excellent, very informative and she always had an answer to a question. Myself and my team learnt so much from here and she has continued on to be a great mentor for our organisation.

Jodie has encouraged me in all areas of my professional pathways. Her experience and expertise has benefited me when struggling with decisions to fulfil the best outcome. Her listening skills and her feedback endorse her professional outlook.

Going out on my own as a sole trader, support worker seemed like a daunting and overwhelming task. Having Jodie to help me through the entire process has been a life saver! (and fun at the same time). Jodie is patient, personable and didn’t make me feel silly at any stage. I would highly recommend Jodie’s services if you are a first-time sole trader with only very little knowledge of all things NDIS.
